What

Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in the region of Andalucia, in the province of Granada in Spain. It contains the highest point of continental Spain: 3,479 metres above sea level.

It is a popular tourist destination, as its high peaks make skiing possible in one of Europe's most southerly ski resorts, in an area along the Mediterranean Sea predominantly known for its warm temperatures and abundant sunshine. At its foothills is found the city of Granada and, a little further, Almería and Málaga.

Parts of the range have been included in the Sierra Nevada National Park. The range has also been declared a biosphere reserve. The Sierra Nevada Observatory and the IRAM radiotelescope are located on the northern slopes at an elevation of 2,800 metres

How to get there

From Oasis Beach 10, it is a trip of 386 km or approx. 4 hours driving before arriving at the ski resort.

Parking

You can risk parking your car in the streets, but it is safer to park your car in one of the public parkings in the ‘zona Baja’

Ski pass & Rental

It is not always convenient to bring all your gear with you when coming to Spain, but there are plenty of shops that rent good material. And while you are renting your ski-gear, you can immediatelly arrange your ski pass.

Slopes and snow

The slopes are north facing, and mainly due to the dry wind the snow is very nice for skiing. The slopes are in general not very difficult and only 106 km. Be aware that the Spanish people are not very experienced skiers, so the red slopes are less populated.

Food

There are not a lot of accomodations on the slopes, but there is plenty of restaurants and bars in the village. Prices are at the level of what one can expect from a ski resort.

Hotel accomodation

Sierra Nevada is built on a steep hill, concentrating a lot of accomodations very close to each other, and prices are quite high. It is worthwhile to also have a look at hotel accomodations in de neighborhoud of Granada. It takes about 30 minutes drive from Granada to Sierra Nevada.

Best time to visit

Sierra Nevada is very popular as weekend trip for a lot of Spanish people, so best plan your visit during the weekdays when there are less people visiting.
